CodeForRed.com Second Opening
Welcome to the second opening of CFRDC, I felt that the previous website just wasn't good, also
it didn't work, I couldn't post new stuff, but thats beside the point. Hopefully I will keep this
updated with my thoughts and opinions, but also stupid stuff like videos, picutes, etc. I am not
sure if I like this layout so it may change again in the future.
RSS Feed
Yay, the RSS feed is working. I'm gonna post up a link tomorrow, its 5:30 I don't feel like working more.

gOS
Holy shit I love this operating system, I mean its like Ubuntu Streamlined, I am only using a Live CD At the moment but this is what I'm gonna use on my desktop, its so smooth and sexy. I mean I have used Ubuntu alot and it was good but this is just much better. My wireless card is working perfect, I am watching a movie on hulu which this OS has a desktop icon for.
Everything in gOS is internet revolved, everything. It has myspace links, and everything its really really nice, I mean I love it, I'd install it on my laptop If I was sure it wouldn't hurt my files, but wow its just so incredible, please people burn a live dvd and try this
Add CommentNow everybody can post comments on my blog entrys I'm going to implement a chaptcha type thing soon.

Some Major Upgrades
Add CommentI did some major upgrades today, things like adding some bbcode type elements to allow easier link posting.
But the biggest thing, I completely reorganized how news is stored, now each news has its own folder, with a sub comment domain, so we can all add comments! At the moment there is no captcha, and even if you are logged in you still have to enter a username but those problems can and will be fixed in a few minutes of work once I regain internet. The storms are a bit of a problem.
As I see everything seems to work fine, so yea comment away.

360 and PSP
Add CommentI decided a few weeks back I was gonna try to not be so bias and to reach out and get some other consoles I might not have before. So first I picked up a used psp, it was nice enough, the first game I got was pretty cool. It was tony hawk skater something or other. And I really liked it. Then the next two games I bought were total failures, graphically, game play wise, in just about every sense of the word they were total crap. SW: Battlefront Renegade Squad I expected good things and got a shitty game with bad graphics and horrible gameplay. Then ATV offroad fury I also thought would be ok, because one of the reasons I bought my PS2 was for an ATV games made by the same people. I got this same as Battlefront, horrible, bad graphics, and bad gameplay. Now I wouldn't have minded the graphics if they would have made it clear and sharp but it was blury and jaged and just bad. Then I got my 360 and its ok I bought a used one and had some issues, I really bought it for one game, Army Of Two, which I love, but I can't find another game I like so thats a bit of a waste. So I am now selling my two shitty PSP games to get a good DS game. I also got Lemmings for PSP which is ok, not as good as the original.
Add CommentWhat has Abe been up to lately you may ask.
Well Abe has recently began talking in the 3rd person.
Abe is joking... or am I.
Anyway, In the past few weeks I have done a bit, nothing to useful, but none the less I did stuff.
For one, I stopped working in flash, it was too restricting.
I switched to Ubuntu Linux and scrapped Vista.
I started coding in Python.
And thats about it. I have an exciting life don't I?
I am going to post more I swear! I am starting school and have multiple hour gaps between classes on some days so it will give me time to really give something back to you, the internet dudes.
Well yea, I will pry be posting some Linux related articles soon cause I seem to be a tad obsessed.
Add CommentI don't know about you guys, but the lack of a linux port of Google's Chrome is really starting to annoy. I had previously read some articles on how to get chrome running under linux but it was complex, and it involved installing a few Wine Mods and fonts. So I just waited. And now some people have been nice enough to release CrossOver Chromium, just one packet to download from there site, install it, and boom chrome in linux running in wine. Its not to slick, it crashes alot, but still its fun to play with. Its not stable, but it wasn't meant to be. In the words of the creators "This is just a proof of concept, for fun, and to showcase what Wine can do." And it is fun! CrossOver Chromium also has a Mac version.
Update: I just tried to use CrossOver again and it seems to crash when I type in a URL, but if I click one of the most visited pages it works fine, I'm posting this from CrossOver so it seems to be working fine now.
Add CommentOn September 7th, 2008 Google turned 10 years old. Google was founded on September 7th, 1998, when the web was still a baby (it is hardly a preschooler now, but still). So I just felt it was necessary to mention this although it is a bit late. I was gonna say something on the 8th, but I forgot.
Add CommentIs what I said when I saw luigi running accross my screen when my wii was downloading Megaman 9. I was amazed it took >30 seconds to download the game (on the third try, first 2 failed, so most was already downloaded) but still. MEGAMAN TIME!
Edit: This is just lame, Megaman 9 does not work with my VGA cable wow that makes me mad. Why the hell doesn't it work wtf, all my other wiiware and hbc games work fine wtf.
Add CommentMy shop channels 'Titles You've Downloaded' List is roughly 4 pages long, as you might have guess I can NOT fit all these downloads on my nand. And it makes me mad, every time I get something new I have to move old things to the SD which is horribly slow. This could be solved in nintendo let people use USB Mass Storage device, and let people play off of them. This is the type of dilemma I could see Bushing and Team Twizzler fixing, some simple IOS hack that let you load off a usb stick, or even the SD card would be great. This is one of the few things I dislike about Wii.
Add CommentBlueProximity is quite the nice little application, I'm currently using it with my Desktop and PDA, and its a blast to play with.
Basically what BlueProximity does is connects your pc to your mobile device then measures the signal strength, and you can set it to activate any command, currently I have it set so when I lean by my machine it opens my cd drive and when I lean back it closes it. Amazing technology eh.
Anyway check it out, its easy to set up and install.
P.S.
(11:07:31 PM) Travis: No credits to me for showing you eh?
(11:08:01 PM) Abe: FINE
(11:08:07 PM) Abe: how would you like to be credited?
(11:08:39 PM) Travis: Credit to my bestest butt buddy travis for showing me this wonderful software!
Add CommentThe name is... WINDOWS 7. Wow... Microsoft isn't even trying to be creative. I think I have made some amazing connections that no one else has yet. Lets think about this. Who was the guest in Microsoft's ad campaign? Jerry Seinfeld, and who suggested naming a child Seven? George Costanza, and what show was he on? Seinfeld??? Yea, these are the insights you can only get at CodeforRed.com
Add CommentBecause they take idiotic routes like this.
That route is much longer then it needs to be, and it's not like I paid for extra long stupid route to my house, no I paid for next business day. In my experience DHL is either the best or worst way of shipping, once I got an item in one day when I paid for standard, then once they couldn't find my house, hopefully they won't run into issues delivering my Mini 9
Add CommentYAY!!! After more then a month of waiting I GOT MY MINI 9!!!! ITS SO TINY!!! It came with a 4 gb partition on my 16gb drive, that was an easy fix, the keyboard is a bit small, but aside from that its really nice. It came with a bit of crappy software that needed uninstalling, I.E. Dell Video Chat, Evolution, and alot of libs haha. The shift key is in an odd spot (next to the arrow keys) but besides that the keyboard is not bad. Anyway screen shot time!
First the Bash, while I was uninstalling applications
Gmail, as you can see, it looks awesome on the small screen.
I don't know whether to blame this on Canonical or Dell
Add Comment1) Go to skype.com linux page, download the Static version of skype.
2) Extract the bz2 to your desktop
3) Rename the folder skype
4) Move the skype folder to the /opt/ folder (open terminal and enter "sudo nautilus /opt/" then you can just drag the folder into it)
5) Make a launcher that opens /opt/skype/skype
6) Party on skype, make sure to try video chatting.
or type "sudo dpkg --force-architecture -i yourFile.deb" in the terminal
Add CommentYep, over at Abeisgreat.com they are both up. pyBot was made over 2 days, and waBa was made in under 2 hours haha. Anyway go check em out on my projects page at Abeisgreat.com
Add CommentI was just thinking Colbert will argue for Obama one day and McCain the next, I just think its kinda funny that all the news stations advertise unbias news, And a few are. But then Colbert, who is trying to be funny actually is kinda unbias. I don't know I just thought that was kinda funny.
Add CommentAbout half way through the new episode theres a trick involving sawing through a metal cage and a girl, its really funny, when they are showing how its done there is a close-up of the girl in the cage and you can clearly see cuts on her elbow, that look just like a cut from a saw, the type of saw used in the trick, then a moment late you see the girl in the cage and her elbows are just barely away from the blade of the saw, I think maybe her elbows was a bit to close in a practice haha.
Add CommentWhat if they came, and they could see all the radio waves in the air, imagine how difficult it would be for them to kill us all when there are colors flashing every which way...
Add CommentAlright, I am going to show you how to make a simple quick-launch bar in ubuntu, this is really nice for small screens on things like netbooks, as the icons are big and all in the same place.
Lets get started. First create a new panel in gnome. To do this right click an existing panel and click "New Panel"
We need to edit some of the panel settings so right-click and select “Properties”
Now we need to change the width to make it nice and big, I suggest setting it to 64px as this is a standard width for icons
Then if you have made your panels any different you need to edit the settings on this one to match. These are my settings, your are probably different.
Now just drag any programs you want into your new toolbar, I dragged the icon from Applications > Internet > Web Browser.
And the finished product
Also it will autohide so you don't need to always see it!
Add CommentThis might be an odd thing to bring up but the truth is you can tell which OS it is just by looking at the icon layout. If I recall Mac normally assigns icons to the left. Windows, to the right. And Linux? People don't really use desktop icons in linux. I know this sounds weird but they really don't I mean maybe 1 or 2 icons but that it. Why don't linux users like icons? I dunno either. I mean they could have tons they just don't. Makes you think doesn't it.
Edit
Anyway I looked up some linux screenshots on the web and I guess alot of em do use desktop icons. Most desktops I've seen in person don't have that many, eh who knows
Add Comment3) Compiz
I will admit compiz is some cool shit, but it's not a good reason to use linux. I'm not saying you shouldn't use it. But it shouldn't be the only reason you use linux.
2) Nerdy Rebellion
Don't use linux as some creepy form of nerdy teenage rebellion. Linux is an operating system, using it makes you no different or for that matter no cooler then the windows or mac users. I think at least a few people use Linux because they want to be different, and thats a bad reason to use linux.
1) You Love Mac But Are To Cheap
DON'T USE LINUX IF YOU LOVE MAC BUT ARE TO CHEAP TO BUY A MAC. If you want a mac buy a mac. Don't skin the crap out of linux in hopes of confusing yourself to the point where you mistake the ext3 filesystem for the hfs. No matter how many tutorials you follow, no matter how many times you tell it to yourself Linux isn't a Mac. DEAL WITH IT.
